Day 1 – Thursday 23 May 2024

Your tour starts at Sydney Airport – Qantas Domestic Terminal 3 where you meet your KTG Tours Host who will accompany you on your 14 day adventure. Our flight departs Sydney at 8:05am, with a short stopover in Brisbane before arriving in Longreach at 2:10pm.* On arrival at Longreach Airport, we are met by our Driver who will transfer us to our Longreach accommodation where we spend the next 2 nights. Get to know your fellow travellers over a tasty meal tonight at our accommodation’s onsite restaurant.

Day 2 – Friday 24 May 2024

This morning we explore Longreach on a Cobb & Co Stagecoach. Clamber aboard, just as a pioneer would have done, and journey along the old mail route. Enjoy a delicious outback smoko, a classic bush movie in the old theatrette and the Harry Redford Old Time Tent Show with a ‘billy-can’ lunch. Next, we visit the Qantas Founders Museum for a behind the scenes tour to see the Boeing 747 & Super Constellation aircraft. Tonight, we take a gentle sunset cruise down the majestic Thomson River followed by a hearty stockman’s camp-fire dinner with poetry. Then, the Aussie bush is illuminated by the Starlight’s Spectacular Sound & Light Picture Show, a unique presentation on the adventures of the notorious cattle thief ‘Captain Starlight’. (BYO alcohol)

Day 3 – Saturday 25 May 2024

This morning we visit the impressive Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame. Explore the Galleries with your virtual guide “Hugh”, take your seat in the undercover stadium for the Live Show – A Stockman’s Life and see the Story of the Australian Stockman in a fully immersive cinema experience. After lunch we depart Longreach bound for Winton.

Day 4 – Sunday 26 May 2024

Today we explore Winton, with our first stop being the world-class Waltzing Matilda Centre. The Centre tells the story of Waltzing Matilda, a song that lives in the hearts of all Australians and the first museum in the world dedicated to a song. Next, we have a look around town and see The Musical Fence and Arno’s Wall. Known as the Dinosaur Capital of Australia, Winton is also home to The Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum of Natural History. Featuring the world’s largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils with the most productive Fossil Preparation Laboratory in the Southern Hemisphere. After lunch we take an incredible behind the scenes tour. See and hear about their exciting finds of unique dinosaurs, including gigantic sauropods and “Banjo”, Australia’s greatest carnivorous dinosaur. Explore Dinosaur Canyon, which consists of five outdoor galleries featuring life-sized bronze dinosaurs. This evening we venture to the Museum terrace where we unwind with a drink and some nibbles to watch the sun go down over the flat country. After the Outback sunset, we settle in for a BBQ feast under the stars while soaking up the amazing Outback lifestyle.

Day 5 – Monday 27 May 2024

Today our journey takes us through McKinlay, where we stop for a bite at Crocodile Dundee’s Walkabout Creek Hotel before arriving in Cloncurry for the next 2 nights.

Day 6 – Tuesday 28 May 2024

This morning we visit the mining town of Mount Isa. Don some attractive overalls, Miner’s hardhat with lamp and some boots and descend into the mine on a guided tour for an incredible insight into life as a miner. At the Isa Experience Heritage Display, we learn about the region’s fascinating cultural, indigenous, pioneering and mining heritage. After lunch we uncover the fascinating story behind Australia’s first and only Underground Hospital before returning to our Cloncurry accommodation.

Day 7 – Wednesday 29 May 2024

This morning we visit the John Flynn Place Museum which pays tribute to Reverend John Flynn and his team for their dedication and success in overcoming isolation and bringing communication, education and health to remote Australia. The museum takes you on a journey following in Flynn’s footsteps from conception, birth; and legacy of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, born in Cloncurry in 1928 to improve quality of life for rural Australians. Next, we depart Cloncurry and travel towards the Gulf Coast, pausing along the way for lunch at the Burke and Wills Roadhouse. This afternoon we arrive in the coastal port town of Karumba where we spend the next 2 nights.

Day 8 – Thursday 30 May 2024

After breakfast this morning we discover the amazing secrets of the mighty ‘Barra’ at the Les Wilson Barramundi Centre & Hatchery, the only hatchery in the world to breed the Southern Gulf strain of this iconic fish. We take a behind the scenes look at the state-of-the-art Interpretive Centre and get to hand feed some Barra – if you dare! Enjoy lunch at the Barra Bites Café followed by a free afternoon to relax. This evening we join Croc & Crab Tours for a Sand Island Sunset Dinner Cruise. Witness the Port of Karumba then cruise out to the sand island where we disembark the boat ready for a spectacular sunset and a tasty dinner on the island including fresh cooked gulf prawns, fish bites, chicken, quiche, salads, fruit and cake platters and drinks.

Day 9 – Friday 31 May 2024

Today we head to Normanton to learn about the legendary Gulflander and Heritage Listed railway line. Next, we travel through Croydon and Georgetown before arriving at Cobbold Gorge where we spend the night in our air-conditioned cabins with private bathrooms, immersed in the natural wonders of the Gulf Savannah countryside.

Day 10 – Saturday 1 June 2024

Witness Cobbold Gorge and the spectacular outback landscape from above on an optional at own expense scenic helicopter flight today (places limited). This morning we discover Cobbold Gorge, a breathtaking natural paradise tucked within the rugged sandstone formations. Experience the stunning Gorge from within and above on a fabulous three-hour guided tour with our Savannah Guide. Glide down the gorge on custom-made, electric powered boats in almost eerie silence, keeping an eye out for the resident freshwater crocodiles as we marvel at the majestic 30 metre sheer walls. Explore the gorge on a circular interpretive guided walk up to the escarpment, with an informative insight on the geology, history, flora and fauna, and be rewarded with a magnificent view of the gorge below from the fabulous new glass bridge. After lunch we continue our journey to the spectacular Undara Volcanic National Park, arriving at The Undara Experience where we settle in for the next 2 nights in our ensuited cabins.

Day 11 – Sunday 2 June 2024

Enjoy an Aussie Bush Breakfast surrounded by native flora and fauna. Mid-morning we join our Savannah Guide for an incredible Archway Explorer Tour to see the impressive lava tubes. Formed approximately 190,000 years ago when molten lava drained out under a thick cooler crust, leaving a series of long, hollow tubes, the lava tubes are only accessible by guided tour. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon. This evening there is an optional at own expense Sunset and Wildlife spotting tour (the tour is limited in numbers and must be confirmed at time of booking on a first in basis).

Day 12 – Monday 3 June 2024

This morning we visit Woodleigh Station for a tour of the 1876 homestead. We learn how hard life was for early settlers and discover the journey the cattle take to get from paddock to plate. Next, we stop to admire the magnificent Millaa Millaa Falls. Surrounded by lush tropical rainforest, the picturesque falls are one of the most photographed in Australia. See the impressive Curtain Fig Tree, which is estimated at over 500 years old. Then, after lunch we continue on to the east coast, arriving in glorious Cairns where we spend the next 2 nights.

Day 13 – Tuesday 4 June 2024

Today you have a FREE DAY in Cairns where can book yourself on an optional at own expense activity. Some popular Day Tours include a boat trip to Green Island or the Outer Great Barrier Reef, Kuranda Scenic Railway and Kuranda Skyrail, see the Daintree Rainforest, spot crocs on a Daintree River cruise or visit Mossman Gorge to name a few. There are also many free activities like Cairns famous Lagoon available.

Day 14 – Wednesday 5 June 2024

Enjoy a leisurely morning, with time to wander around town, take a dip in the hotel pool or Cairns Lagoon or perhaps do some last minute souvenir shopping. Then, it’s time to farewell Queensland as we are transferred to Cairns Airport for our direct flight home with Qantas, arriving back in Sydney at around 4:30pm.*
