KTG Tours 7 Day Victorian Goldfields Itinerary

 

Day 1:   Sunday 11 October 2020

(Meals: L, D)

We depart Sydney this morning and travel south, pausing for morning tea along the way before stopping for lunch in Gundagai. We continue on to Holbrook where we see the HMAS Otway Submarine before arriving at our Albury accommodation for the night. Settle in and enjoy dinner in the comfort of our motel’s restaurant.

Day 2:   Monday 12 October 2020

Today we cross the border into Victoria and travel through Numurkah before arriving in the River Port town of Echuca ready to board the Pride of the Murray for a relaxing lunch cruise along the Murray River. Back on land, we have a look around the historic Port of Echuca then take a trip down memory lane at the Great Aussie Beer Shed & Heritage Farm Museum before continuing on Bendigo where we spend the next 2 nights.

Day 3:   Tuesday 13 October 2020

This morning we visit Bendigo Pottery, Australia’s oldest working pottery where we see some demonstrations and explore the interactive museum. Enjoy a delicious morning tea before heading to the Central Deborah Gold Mine where we board the famous Vintage Talking Tram. Discover the wide streetscapes and grand architecture of Bendigo as our tram tells us entertaining stories about a city founded on one of the world’s richest goldfields, explaining key landmarks. We stop along the way to see the almost 150 year old Bendigo Joss House Temple and discover the extraordinary world of Chinese Culture with the help of our friendly and knowledgeable guide. We then reboard the Vintage Tram and return to the Central Deborah Gold Mine where we step back in time and experience life as a Gold Miner starting with a traditional Miners Crib Lunch. Next, we are kitted up with a hard hat and miner’s lamp and descend 61 metres underground into the mine with our experienced guide who will enlighten us about the Central Deborah Gold Mine and see aspects of the mining process first hand.

Day 4:   Wednesday 14 October 2020

We depart Bendigo today and travel to Harcourt to visit a unique sculpture garden and gallery called Woop-Woop. Explore the extensive garden which is adorned with over 100 sculptures depicting Australian sayings and enjoy some morning tea of Shearer’s scones with fly bog (jam) & thick cow (cream). Next, we enjoy a ride on the Victorian Goldfields Railway, the authentic steam heritage train linking the historic gold mining towns of Castlemaine and Maldon in Central Victoria. After lunch we continue on to Creswick where we take a guided tour of the Creswick Woollen Mill, the last coloured Mill of its kind left in Australia. With 70 years under its belt, the Mill continues to manufacture beautiful natural fibre products including alpaca, cashmere, possum, bamboo, rabbit and more. We also get to meet their alpacas, goats and sheep under the newly built “animal experience” area with their friendly Farmer ready to answer any questions. Our journey continues as we arrive in Ballarat this afternoon. Tonight you are in for a treat as we enjoy a delicious dinner at Ballarat’s Sovereign Hill before witnessing the incredible Aura Sound & Light Show. Aura is the story of how gold revolutionised Australia. When the sun goes down the historic precinct comes to life. Explore space, delve into the Dreamtime and re-live Australia’s most important rebellion all while travelling under the night sky.

Day 5:   Thursday 15 October 2020

After an eventful night, we have a leisurely morning. Following breakfast we are joined by a local guide who will take us on an interesting exploration of Ballarat. Learn about the areas gold history, heritage buildings and more. Our tour finishes at the Eureka Centre, located at the historic site of the 1854 Eureka Stockade rebellion where we take a self-guided look through the centre and see one of Australia’s most revered cultural artefacts, the Eureka Flag (The Flag of the Southern Cross). After lunch you have the option to head back to the motel for some down time or you may like to return to explore Sovereign Hill during daylight (entry at own expense).

Day 6:   Friday 16 October 2020

This morning we farewell Ballarat and travel through glorious countryside stopping to discover the mystery of Hanging Rock or Mount Diogenes as it’s also known, at the Hanging Rock Discovery Centre. Continuing on we enjoy lunch in the historic town of Euroa and see the old National Australia Bank building which was robbed by Ned Kelly and his gang in 1878. This afternoon we arrive back at our Albury accommodation for our last night of the tour.

Day 7:   Saturday 17 October 2020

For our final day of the tour, we start the journey back to Sydney stopping along the way for morning tea, lunch around Yass and an afternoon stop around Sutton Forest before arriving back in Sydney around 6:00pm depending on traffic.
