Day 1   Welcome to Alice Springs

Your tour starts at Sydney Airport where you meet your Tour Hostess who will accompany you on your 6 day adventure into Central Australia. Our Qantas flight departs Sydney at 9:30am, arriving in Alice Springs at 12:20pm local time.* On arrival at Alice Springs Airport, we are met by our Driver Guide who will transfer us to our hotel, stopping off at Anzac Hill Lookout to admire spectacular views across the town of Alice. Tonight we enjoy an incredible dinner experience in a bush setting. Have a drink and walk around before dinner as the sun is setting changing the colours of the rock. Dinner will be cooked in a bush oven with the burning Mulga wood giving extra flavour to the meal. It will be a delicious 3 course meal and features some traditional bush food. Our host, Bob, will share some tips on his cooking style and his knowledge of Aboriginal bush foods while we dine under the Milky Way.

Hotel: Crowne Plaza Lasseters Hotel, Alice Springs. D

Day 2   West MacDonnell Ranges

The West MacDonnell Ranges is the ideal place to experience the geology, land forms and variety of native flora and fauna. You’ll take a walk to Simpsons Gap and dramatic Angkerle (Standley Chasm). Created over millions of years, the deep red sandstone formation contrasts with the carpet of lush, green ferns and gum trees on the valley floor. There’ll be time to cool off with a swim at Ellery Creek Big Hole and to explore the Ochre Pits and learn about ochre’s importance, having been used for thousands of years by Aboriginal people for medicinal and magical purposes. This evening enjoy dinner at the hotel.

Day 3   Alice Springs – Kings Canyon

Today we visit the School of the Air, an educational service for children living in remote areas. Then visit the Royal Flying Doctor Service, which provides a ‘mantle of safety’ to the people of the outback. As we make our way from Alice Springs to Kings Canyon, stop at the Camel Farm and learn about the impact camels had in opening up Central Australia. Camels, ideally suited to the hot, dry climate of Australia’s interior, were imported in the 19th century and remained the principal means of outback transport until railways and roads were established. Here you have the opportunity to ride a camel (at own expense). On arrival in Kings Canyon we leisurely take in the sights then explore the boulder-strewn creek bed – an easy shady walk following the trail between the two sheer walls of the canyon. Tonight enjoy dinner at the hotel.

Hotel: Kings Canyon Resort, Kings Canyon. BD

Day 4   Kings Canyon – Uluru

This mornings activity is optional, for those with a good level of fitness. Make the climb to the rim of the Canyon, where you will be rewarded with marvellous views of Watarrka National Park. Continue the 3 hour walk around the canyon with your Guide as you hear and learn about the geology and history of this amazing formation. Take a rest and a moment to enjoy the
tranquillity of the ‘Garden of Eden’. We will then return back to the resort to collect the remaining guests before making our way onto Uluru. Pass through Curtin Springs and view Atila (Mt. Conner). You’ll be amazed at the site of Atila, often mistaken for Uluṟu. Atila is a very distinctive, flat-topped mountain that rises 300 metres above the desert sand. Tonight we head into the Uluru – Kata Tjuta National Park. The scenery along the way will amaze you and with luck, you may even see some of the local wildlife such as dromedary camels and kangaroos. View sunset and the changing colours of Uluru while enjoying nibbles and sparkling wine.

Continue on to our exclusive venue to enjoy a delicious barbecue dinner and stargazing (weather permitting). Enjoy sparkling wine on arrival and dine on steak, lamb sausages, skewered chicken, garlic prawns and a selection of fresh salads and a tasty dessert.

Hotel: Outback Pioneer Hotel, Ayers Rock. BD

Day 5   Uluru – Kata Tjuta

This morning our driver guide will share with us fascinating stories of the geology, history and culture of Uluru, which is deeply sacred to the local Anangu people. Rise early to watch the first rays of the sun set the Red Centre and Uluru alight. After sunrise join your Guide for a drive around the base of Uluru. Then travel by coach to the Mutitjulu Walk where you will be escorted to the Mutitjulu Waterhole. Visit the Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre to see locally-made arts and crafts. This afternoon on arrival at Kata Tjuta you’ll commence the walk to the Valley of the Winds, heading first to the Karu lookout. With views across the many domes of Kata Tjuta and out into the sacred Anangu men’s area, you’ll be in awe of this natural wonder. Next stop is the Karingana lookout. This walk can be a little challenging, but well worth the effort. (If group is unable to complete the 2nd lookout walk, alternatively will visit Walpa Gorge). Tonight enjoy chilled Australian wines and canapés as we enjoy the wonder of a Kata Tjuta sunset. Each passing minute brings something new as the domes continue to change colour with the setting sun. On return to the hotel we enjoy dinner at the Bough House Restaurant.

Hotel: Outback Pioneer Hotel, Ayers Rock. BD

Day 6   Farewell Ayers Rock

This morning there is some free time to enjoy some optional extra activities like the Field of Lights Sunrise Tour, a scenic helicopter flight for a birds eye view of the spectacular landscape, a camel ride with Uluru forming an incredible backdrop, a thrilling Harley ride around the base of Ayers Rock or some souvenir shopping. The choice is yours! We are then transferred to Ayers Rock Airport for our Virgin Australia flight arriving back in Sydney at 5:40pm.*
