Itinerary

Day 1:  Wednesday 26th April 2023

This morning we depart Sydney and travel via the Blue Mountains before arriving at historic Abercrombie House, a heritage treasure of the Bathurst Region. Built in the 1870’s by Bathurst pioneers the Stewart family, today it is the home of the Morgan family who have spent many years restoring the magnificent house, outbuildings and grounds. On arrival, we will be treated to a delicious lunch followed by a guided tour of the majestic property. Next we travel to the delightful village of Millthorpe. Established in the pioneering era, Millthorpe has a rich agricultural history, a legacy of grand buildings, heritage architecture and a streetscape that has remained largely unchanged since the early 1900’s. The entire village is classified by the National Trust and the village centre has cobbled, bluestone bordered streets. Step back in time as we explore the very interesting displays at the Golden Memories Museum before continuing on to Orange, our base for the next 3 nights.

Day 2: Thursday 27th April 2023

This morning we are joined by a local guide who will take us on an exploration of Orange. Witness the glorious autumn colours everywhere you look, see historic sites, picturesque parks and gardens, admire the serenity of Lake Canobolas and learn of Banjo Patterson’s Birthplace. This afternoon we visit the Historic town of Carcoar. Enjoy lunch and an interesting town tour before returning to our motel for dinner.

Day 3: Friday 28th April 2023

Today we travel further afield and explore more of the NSW Central Tablelands. Located halfway between Orange and Parkes is the small town of Manildra, home to the largest Flour Mill in the Southern Hemisphere which we will pass on our way to our first stop at the Amusu Theatre. The theatre is a rare historic treasure that has been operated by the same family since it was built in 1939. Enjoy a short historic film followed by a chance to explore the memorabilia museum. Continuing on we visit the CSIRO Parkes Radio Telescope also known as ‘The Dish’ for some lunch and a chance to look around the Visitors Centre. This afternoon we journey back to Orange, ready to enjoy another delicious dinner for our final night at the motel.

Day 4: Saturday 29th April 2023

This morning we bid farewell to Orange and travel to Oberon where we visit Mayfield Gardens, one of the world’s largest privately owned cool climate gardens. There is ample time to explore at your leisure, the specially designed gardens, set on over 36 acres. Enjoy lunch in Bathurst before returning to Sydney, arriving back at around 6:30pm, depending on traffic.
